Drawing

Still Life and Observational Drawing
I believe that still life drawing and observational drawing are important art and recording skills, making you overall better at drawing. It is a great foundation in learning the necessary art elements and design principals - line, shape, tone, form, etc. It is also great for exploring various drawing techniques -shading, crosshatching, line variations, etc.
Portrait Drawing
As a educator and artist I feel that Portrait drawing and self portraits are one of the best ways in recording the human appearance and analyzing the human face. It is an activity of observing and reflecting the personal portraiture of ones face, and examining the unique facial features we each have. Portraits can say a lot about a person, and often highlight ones individuality and identity.
Experimental Drawing
I use experimental drawing often in my own artist practice and strongly encourage it with my students when teaching various projects. Drawing as a free form can be therapeutic and inspiring as there is no rules when exploring a drawing medium. A lot of my final artworks are frequently derived from my initial experimental drawing, as exploration of mediums, mark making and free thinking are vital in my artist process.
Developmental and prep sheets
Another stage of my artist and education practice that I emphasis is the developmental and prep drawing sheets. After initial drawings / primary recordings, a collection and editing of ideas is needed to develop the next stage of the process, which presents more critical and creative responses. A visual mapping of drawings and ideas can be used to elevate myself and my students work to the next stage.
