St. Michael House Ballymun
St. Michael’s House provides a comprehensive range of services and supports to men, women, and children with intellectual disabilities and their families in 170 locations in the greater Dublin Area. It supports 1,953 people and this has an impact on thousands of family members. St. Michael’s House is a company funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE), TUSLA and the Department of Education and Skills.
As part of the PME program, Special Educational Needs placement is required in whereby students are immersed in SEN settings. SEN placement works in promoting positive attitudes regarding inclusion, and in addressing the art and design elements of self expression and creativity, while working collaboratively.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid -19 pandemic, placement was suspended in regards to health and safety in a high risk environment. However, collaborative planning and research surrounding inclusivity and SEN continued amoung us PME and Joint BA students. An imagined Unit of Learning was created in hopes that it may be used in our future practice.
